ColdStar Solutions Inc. is a Vancouver Island based Grocery Wholesaler, a Transport company that specializes in hauling food products between Vancouver and all parts of the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Vancouver Island, and the Gulf Islands of Georgia Strait and a public Cold Storage operation.
ColdStar Solutions Inc. was formed on 1 July 2014 as a result of a merger between Victoria based Wilson Foods 1994 and Cold Star Freight Systems Inc. The opportunity came to take two successful Island businesses and merge them to create a company who’s sole focus is to enhance the grocery market on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
Our purpose is to drive growth and profitability with in the Independent Grocery market in the areas that we service.
The whole ColdStar team is committed to building trusted relationships with our customers and vendors, listening closely to their needs, and providing them with innovative solutions. Our customers are our greatest asset and we work hard to provide them with the highest quality products and services possible. We must be doing things right because they’ve got some darn nice things to say about us.
We also strongly believe that we have a responsibility to our communities. Food is a shared resource and a basic human need. It provides us with an opportunity to break down barriers, to share and connect with others. This is what our Community Food Project is all about.
HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) Compliant
In August 2005, ColdStar became the third food carrier in Canada and the first in western Canada to be awarded certification of the HACCP-based Trucking Food Safety Program developed by Kasar Canada along with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Canadian Trucking Alliance.
The program ensures our customers’ that the refrigerated supply chain is maintained from pick-up to delivery.
Safety is important to us, we pride ourselves in running well maintained equipment and have professional drivers and skilled warehouse workers to ensure that safety remains a priority throughout all our shipping and storage operations.

Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award – Finalist
In 2005, Cold Star Freight Systems Inc.’s founder, Kelly Hawes, was a Finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Pacific Region, Business to Business Products.
In addition to our work on the Community Food Project, we strongly encourage everyone on our team to give when, where, and what they can back to their communities. Each year the staff raises thousands of dollars for various causes. ColdStar matches every dollar raised.
Some of our charity work includes:
- sponsoring three children from World Vision;
- supporting local sports teams, including soccer, curling and baseball;
- diligently raising funds for both BC and Canadian Cancer Societies including breast cancer and Relay for Life;
- donating the use of refrigerated trailers for fundraising events;
- actively participating in Red Shirt Fridays to support our troops and veterans.
We also do ongoing contributions to one-off fundraising events and causes when we get requests that fit our charitable model (typically revolving around children and families in need).
